Wish to Fly

Ugh, finally finished one of my projects, lol.  I've been working on this tirelessly a year ago and decided to take a break from it.  Now a year later I finally got back to it and did the finishing touches.  It turned out better than I imagined which is fantastic.  I definitely think this is one of my best computer artworks.  Oh and there is a story behind this picture.

The dragon is actually a sea serpent and her name is Sikyra.  Unlike other sea serpents she yearned for the sky.  Her brothers and sisters would often see her jumping as high as possible in several attempts to fly or see her sit on a rock watching the sky.  One day when she became an adult her father, the King of Serpents told her she must abandon her day dreams and frolicking to become a responsible princess of her people.  Yet, however much she tried Sikyra could not abandon her dreams because it was a part of her.

One night she reached the shore and watched the moon rise from the ocean floor.  Paw deep in water, Sikyra closed her eyes and wished with all her might that she could fly.  So it could become more than just a dream but reality, then her father and anyone else wouldn't be able to tell her how to live her life.  A bright golden light rose from beneath her.  Sikyra opened her eyes, squinting from the blinding light.  Before she even knew what was happening Sikyra felt extreme pain on her back and shoulder blades.  She roared in agony and looked behind her.  Vines of golden light swarmed around her like water.

At first Sikyra couldn't see what was causing her such pain but as quickly as it came the pain was gone.  "What in the world?" Sikyra gasped in deep breathes.  Her red eyes widened as she realized she had grown wings!  Not even caring how it was possible Sikyra stretched out her wings and took to the sky.  So her wish was granted and no longer was she just a serpent with dreams of flight.  She was Sikyra, the first of a knew species, a dragon!
